The App
You can download MyBinApp from Apple Store or Google Play store. Once you have it installed on your device you can start scanning product barcodes and that's it. The app will tell you which bin to place the packaging in and if there's any need to separate the different materials that the packaging is made out of based on your postcode.
As we are at the beginning of our journey, we're still building our database of product barcodes and their associated packaging materials. If you scan a product that is not yet in our database, it would be of great help to us if you could provide the recycling details. The app will guide you through the process.
Since recycling guidelines vary from council to council, we need to set up each council separately so you can get accurate recycling data. As you can imagine this takes time, but we're aiming to cover whole of the UK withing the next few months. Currently we have set up the following four councils:
Aberdeen City
Dundee City
East Cambridgeshire
Exeter
Fenland
Great Yarmouth
Maidstone
Peterborough
South Kesteven
If your postcode falls within any of the above councills the app will tell you which bin to place the scanned packaging.
If you've got any questions or suggestions, please do not hesitate to contact us using the apps contact form.
